After lifting our sailing boat on and off its trailer a few times to take my canoe and windsurfer to the lake, I decided there must be a better way. Meet my friend the roof rack. This one is extremely simple to make and will work on any car with rails (if that's what you call them?) on the roof.

The main piece of wood was recycled from a pallet, which a lot of places have for free. I tried to rip it in half lengthwise using a hand saw. Well, crooked it is then! The two little crosspieces on each end are from scrap wood. Some inner tube is used as padding. Loops of inner tube tie the roofracks to the car. Pretty simple really.
